“Research use only” is everywhere. What is that label really telling us?
I see research-use-only labels online. Does that mean the product is tested or safe for people?

I used to read that label as a sign something was cutting-edge. It is more useful to see it as a reason to pause and verify what the product is actually intended for.

No. “Research use only” is not evidence of human safety, quality, or FDA approval, and it does not make a product appropriate for self-treatment. Treat it as a signal to stop and verify the product's regulatory status and intended use with a qualified professional rather than as a substitute for a drug label.
